The cases of impacted teeth are different in different
people. Some people get their teeth impacted during adolescence. Some people
get no issue from the impacted teeth. And there are many people who suffer from
numerous problems due to impacted teeth.
What are the impacted teeth?
An impact tooth means that the tooth is unable to fully
erupt through the gums. It usually happens when another tooth blocks the way of
that tooth.
In most of the cases, the problem is due to the eruption of
tooth in an awkward angle. The case of wisdom tooth is worth mentioning in this
regard because it is the most common one. They are usually blocked by second
molars as they tend to erupt in an angle. One thing that you have to keep in
mind about impacted teeth is that they can destroy other normal teeth.
Moreover, they are more likely to get cavities because they are not very easy
to clean.
The connection between impacted teeth and headache
The pain and discomfort due to impacted teeth is quite
similar to that of teething pain in the babies. Many people get selling and
pain in the gums. If the impacted tooth is one of the molars, it can cause pain
in temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The jaws can become swollen and you will have
difficulty in eating and speaking.
Infection, swelling, pain and fever are the most probable
outcomes of impacted teeth. So, there is quite chance for the intense kind of
headache to occur as a result of this condition.
Dental experts have not ruled out the possibility of
occurrence of headache due to impacted wisdom teeth. So, you may need to get
your bite adjusted. The chances for headache are specifically heightened when
you have infection in the erupting tooth.
It would be worth mentioning here that adjustment of your
bite can result in extra stress on your TMJ. This stress can further lead to
spasms. The pain due to spasms can get radiated to the head and neck area, thus
leading to the headache of some intensity.
Treatment
Headache, or any other pain, due to impacted teeth can be
relieved if you take some over-the-counter painkillers. However, the experts
suggest that you should get full treatment for the root cause because
painkillers can only mask the pain.
Generally, it is a good idea to get the wisdom tooth removed
before it starts putting you in a misery. Thus, you need to visit your dentist
as soon as you see the symptoms arising.
